ABSTRACT

When the analyst changes his office, the very function of the frame as a container of the psychic processes at work in analysis is brought into play. In its first sense, the frame is an ensemble of technical modalities that organise the meetings between the analysand and the analyst, a formal and contractual arrangement designed to promote the establishment of the process. For the analysand, the material frame is an anonymous place where he is carried away. For the analyst, it is the place where he spends most of his time in his daily practice and where he reveals something of himself, even when he strives to observe the appropriate neutrality which his profession legitimately requires of him. However, it is also the path taken to get to the fixed appointment, all the gestures that precede and accompany the analysand's arrival in the analyst's office.
