ABSTRACT

Instructional coaches, particularly in the field of instructional technology, are quite common in international schools in Asia. This chapter highlights different models of coaching as implemented at a selection of international schools. I will explore and compare coaching models at three international schools in Asia. Common strategies include coaching conversations, working with reluctant teachers while empowering enthusiastic teachers, developing and facilitating professional development, and leading school-wide initiatives. School leaders concerned about the cost-to-benefit ratio of hiring coaches will see how the model can lead to positive impact in many areas, ranging from student and professional learning to stakeholder and community buy-in for innovations—making instructional coaching a valuable investment in any school's future.
