ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on the impact of FRA from the perspective of the European Commission. It considers in which ways and to what extent FRA’s work has been innovative and how it has added value to the work of the Commission. Its innovative aspects include its position as an EU internal human rights monitoring mechanism and its use of sociological-statistical methods in demonstrating the situation of fundamental rights. Views vary as to how much FRA has influenced the work of the Commission, but the benefits of its work were mentioned in relation to the development of EU policies on security, migration, Roma, LGBTI equality, violence against women, and anti-Semitism. As regards the future, FRA should remain flexible in its working methods and constantly search for the most effective ways and tools on how to bring real benefits.
