ABSTRACT

This chapter utilizes the Solution Focused approach in a systemic manner with team members, parents and students, so that solutions are built collaboratively within the “system” of the school. Typically, school counselors or social workers do their best to engage and inspire students to succeed, but once the student re-enters the system where the problematic behaviors were created, the tendency of the system is to maintain the same lens of the system, thereby lessening lasting solutions. This chapter provides steps to take amongst the school system so that everyone not only collaborates toward a mutual outcome, but rebuilds relationships between student and teachers, which is more conducive to lasting change.
