ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines how the Solution Focused approach is used within New Zealand Police to support young offenders and their families. The inspiring story of a young boy and his grandmother is used to illustrate the magic of the approach. The chapter highlights how the Solution Focused approach made it possible for this young boy to engage with support and use his many strengths to overcome the challenges he had been struggling with. It also includes reflections from the young boy, his grandmother, the police officer who was involved, and the author regarding what each thought was most helpful in this approach.
