ABSTRACT

This chapter shows both the roots of the metaphorical inspiration that management and organisation science draw from the potential of AI and the practical overcoming of the constantly present paradoxes and aporetic tensions that are difficult to reconcile in the analogue reality. The postmodernity of management, especially in the Age of AI, is associated with the impression that social development leads us somewhere beyond modern institutions, towards institutions built on different assumptions. Digital transformation is building a future in which the boundaries between the physical, digital and biological worlds are blurred, with AI being a great part of that. AI can also bring about a massive democratisation of specialised services and make them accessible to people who previously could not use them, for example in the field of medical diagnosis. The idea of a smart city generally boils down to ensuring that the quality of life is a good available to all residents.
