Claude Steiner’s last words were “Love is the answer”, a phrase to which Hartmut Oberdiek refers at the end of his chapter on emotional literacy, and which Karen Minikin takes, appropriately enough, as the title of her chapter on Claude’s work on love. In his “Last word” to his book The Heart of the Matter, the subtitle of which is “Love, Information, and Transactional Analysis”, as Karen also notes, Claude himself reflected that “love alone has not been a redemptive task. Everyone who knew Claude was aware of his declining health over the last 12 years of his life as he battled with prostate cancer and with Parkinson’s disease. It is with a heavy heart that the author write this contribution to The Script as it marks the passing of a great elder in our community, a passionate exponent and proponent of transactional analysis, and a personal friend.
