ABSTRACT
For researchers in the broad field of outdoor studies, phenomenology has obvious appeal given the claims made about its potential for coming to some sort of understanding about what it is that participants experience and the meanings that they construct or interpret from their experiences. This chapter outlines some of the key philosophical principles of the broad field of phenomenology that relate to phenomenology as research methodology in order to carry out research that is methodologically coherent and therefore trustworthy.
