ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book aims to emphasize how the widespread social, civic, and cultural significance of pools and beaches in Australian society contributes to their acceptance, across generations, as compelling intergenerational gathering sites. It describes how the selection of a 150-year-old barn for the site of a daylong intergenerational programming retreat in Central Pennsylvania was an ideal choice of location. The book describes the importance of the olive tree and how it functions as an Intergenerational Contact Zones entity and symbol in the Palestinian cultural context. It presents an intergenerational ESL program model that in effect upended policies and procedures for how English Language Centers in Hong Kong secondary schools, function. The book describes the rationale, supporting evidence, and history behind the “Intergenerational School” model that first took root in Cleveland, OH.
