ABSTRACT

The International Journal of Cultural Policy has been receiving an increasing stream of articles looking at questions of cultural diplomacy and international cultural relations. In 2015, a special issue was published, entitled ‘Cultural Diplomacy – Beyond the National Interest?’, guest edited by Ien Ang, Yudhishthir Raj Isar and Phillip Mar. In keeping with the aims and scope of the Journal, the cultural policies examined in the 2017 issue have been understood in terms of the promotion or prohibition of cultural practices and values by governments, corporations, other institutions and individuals. Drawing on a broad range of disciplinary perspectives, the issue throws new light on the theories and practices of cultural diplomacy and international cultural relations, across diverse geocultural contexts that include Japan, India and the Indian diaspora, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Canada, Southeast Europe and the European Union.
