ABSTRACT

This book emphasizes the pertinence of gender as an analytical tool to study the political mechanisms of globalization by scrutinizing social movements, public policies, representation of women’s interests, as well as a series of instances and moments demonstrating the penetration of gender by larger economic and political logics. It also suggests two additional areas for thought: how to study feminism in a time of institutionalization and professionalization of gender equality discourses; and how state-centred logics and political regimes remain strong nexus for gender policies and gender politics, despite globalized dynamics and the dissemination of gender mainstreaming worldwide.
