ABSTRACT
The industrial capitalist problematic is too tightly and intimately connected with state interests where there is no pretence any longer: at the time of writing the current US President, Donald Trump, is a businessman with strong conservative corporate support. Scott Pruitt, installed as head of the Environmental Protective Agency began methodically to roll back Obama’s Clean Power Plan. Young people are wise to the failure of world politicians and capitalist leaders to do anything meaningful regarding climate change, except constant negotiation with corporate power over carbon taxes. The protest was inspired by Greta Thunberg, a then 15-year-old high school student living in Stockholm who, every Friday, refused to attend school, instead protesting in front of the parliament buildings over her government’s inactivity. Modernism decentred the meaning of art, which was entrenched in representational thought, not only in public schools but also in art galleries and museums around the world.
