ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at autobiography as generative of genre and forms of fiction and non-fiction. Stories of the self are told with intentional sequence. In the case of Augustine, events demonstrating his confessions are a prayer. In Vico’s case, his self-history is a pedagogic exercise demonstrating methods of intellectual history and proper educational technique. Finally, in Jung’s case, the establishment of myth elevates the story of oneself to align with collective forms of unconscious in the culture; again, showing the stages of individuation.
