ABSTRACT

On May 14, 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, during which he announced that China will hold the International Import Expo starting from 2018. In 2018, China will significantly lower import tariffs for vehicles and reduce import tariffs for some other products. The expo consists of two exhibitions, that is, the Country Pavilion for Trade & Investment and the Enterprise & Business Exhibition. During the expo, the Hongqiao International Trade Forum, co-sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, will invite political leaders and ministers of exhibitors, and leaders of international organisations, as well as business leaders of world-famous enterprises and major multinational companies. With the continuous development of China’s economy, its middle-class ranks have gradually expanded and their purchasing power in the world has increased. In terms of supply, however, the high-quality and diversified supply of goods still faces some weak areas.
