ABSTRACT
The Initiative aims to promote infrastructure development and greater connectivity, synergise the development policies and strategies of individual countries, deepen practical cooperation, encourage coordinated and interconnected development and bring about common prosperity. Based on the proposal from President Xi and the need to promote international cooperation under the new situation, and taking into consideration the routes of the ancient land and sea Silk Roads, China has identified different routes for the Belt and Road. The cooperation framework is the framework for joint building of the Belt and Road, giving a clear direction for countries involved to participate in the initiative. The Belt and Road Initiative, characterised by equality and inclusiveness, and grounded in realism, manifests the common interests of countries along the routes, including China, and is a new future-oriented consensus for international cooperation. The projects under the Belt and Road will be embedded into the existing or planned infrastructure networks of countries along the routes.
