ABSTRACT

The China–Central Asia–West Asia Economic Corridor extends westward from north-western China via Central Asia to the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula and the Mediterranean coast, involving relevant countries in Central Asia, West Asia and North Africa. West Asia, the Middle East Gulf countries in particular, has become China’s most important oil and gas supplier, while China has already become the largest oil export market of the Middle East Gulf countries. The infrastructure connectivity, under the framework of the China–Central Asia–West Asia Economic Corridor, provides new opportunities for China, Central Asia and West Asia to jointly improve infrastructure and facilitation and achieve a “seamless link” in the supply chain. China has become, to Central Asia and West Asia, an important export destination for energy and resources and an important source of industrial manufactures such as textiles, machinery, electronics, steel, fine chemicals and precision machinery.
