ABSTRACT

The Eastern Partnership is a part of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) framework proposed by the European Union (EU) in 2004. As shown in the key development fields of this plan specified at the 3rd EU–Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, this plan and the Belt and Road Initiative obviously have joint benefits and match concepts. Ukraine is the first European country to announce its support for the Belt and Road Initiative. As early as December 2013, during a visit to China, Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych, the Premier of Ukraine, signed a series of agreements with China on the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. Georgia attempts to realise rapid development by closely coordinating with the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2015, Georgia became the first Eastern European country to negotiate with China on a free trade agreement, and signed the “Memorandum of cooperation on strengthening a joint construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt”.
