ABSTRACT

Since the Belt and Road Initiative was released in 2013, there has always been a worry about its potential influence on climate change. As the contents of the Belt and Road Initiative are continuously enriched and sublimated, the concept of green development is gradually merged into the Belt and Road construction. As a large-scale project, the Belt and Road Initiative influences the climate change in a complex way. As predicted by the International Energy Agency, the request for coal will rise greatly in the Belt and Road countries of India and South East Asian countries, and the need for petroleum may tend to increase in the Middle East and some other Asian countries. The leaders of China promise to make the Belt and Road construction green-based; actively promote ecological progress in investment and trade; strengthen cooperation in protecting the ecological environment, protecting biological diversity and coping with climate change; and build the Silk Road into a environmentally friendly road.
