ABSTRACT

Trans-European Transport Networks is a series of European Union (EU) plans and policies for integrating the various traffic means of Europe, such as roads, railways, airports and canals, into a uniform traffic transportation network. In 1996, Resolution 1692/96/E and the “Development guidelines for pan-Europe traffic transportation network” were passed through the review of the European Commission. With the infrastructure connectivity as one of important contents, the Belt and Road Initiative has an inherently same objective as that of this plan. At the 17th EU–China Summit, the China–EU Connectivity Platform was proposed for establishment so as to promote mutual communication and policy coordination between this plan and the Belt and Road Initiative. In the “Joint Communiqué of Leaders’ Round-Table of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation”, this plan has been listed as one of international, regional and country-level cooperation frameworks and initiatives to be mainly aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative.
