ABSTRACT

Elaisian was established in November 2016 based on an idea by its two co-founders. Elaisian now operates in several regions with 50 olive oil farms and 80,000 olive trees monitored. The implementation of on-field sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) platforms are driving the evolution from precision to "predictive" agriculture. The reference sector is the widest AgTech but Elaisian is active in precision farming, sensors, and data analytic segment. Elaisian is not the only firm in this sector but it is the only and the first to specialize in olive oil. Measuring the technological readiness of the farm industry means detecting the rate of resistance to new technological tools and innovation. According to Elaisian’s research, olive oil farming still has a low digitalization rate, around one percent. There are two Elaisian AI applications: Machine Learning and Predictive Analytics applied through algorithms to the huge amount of data stored in the company database.
