ABSTRACT

Sjaak Wolfert is a senior scientist at Wageningen University and Research. He studied the socio-economic aspects of data sharing, business modelling, and governance issues within business ecosystems. In this interview with Maria Carmela Annosi, author of this book, and Teun Gilissen, research assistant at Wageningen University, Sjaak Wolfert described how his institution could manage the development and coordination of large business ecosystems in the agri-food sector and how SMEs are using digital technology and their presence within the business ecosystem to blur the traditional boundaries of their market through new business models. But as Sjaak Wolfert recognizes, inside the business ecosystem there is a variety of social and private international, conational, and political institutions possibly in the position to enact ad hoc forms of global governance, allowing all the partners to interact in a non-disruptive manner.
