ABSTRACT

As a global industry, tourism is predominantly driven by experience. Tourism experience is a psychological aspect of the individuals or the group of stakeholders associated with the industry. Among the stakeholders Guests and Hosts are treated as the principal actors as their experience influences the tourism industry the most. This chapter conceptualizes the guest–host relationship in tourism and elaborates its effect on tourism experience building. Tourism experience differs from individual to individual, having certain goals and aspects. Several aspects of tourism experience are discussed from the perspective of guest and host. Tourism is an industry of resources and the resources cannot be isolated from the activities. Extensive tourism practices give rise to several issues like environmental degradation, culture eradication and social exploitation, which need sustainable approaches for resource conservation for the future generation. In the final section the chapter elaborates the sustainability issues and the guest–host responsibilities in sustainability to develop a quality tourism experience.
