ABSTRACT

Tourism destination competitiveness is found to be a highly debated topic. The lack of a single master method to assess the competitiveness of a destination has led to the dependency on multiple analytical tools measuring the same. Quality tourism experience needs to be considered as an important variable (if not of greater importance) along with objective variables such as tourism expenditure and arrival counts. The chapter ponders the question of whether a subjective variable such as tourism experience has an impact on the competitiveness of a destination. The experiences, good ones, need to be further fostered and all of the stakeholders involved should be made competent in order to ensure that the overall tourism experiences at any particular destination are bettered over time. The constant updating of contemporary tourism practices may be the answer to the question of prolonged sustainability of a destination.
