ABSTRACT
Visual representations are an essential part of the history of mining. Among others photographs, logos, posters, websites and book covers shape our notion of coal and coal mining between wealth, prosperity and environmental damage. The chapter explores these representations in a multinational context and especially within the tension of local traditions and global images.
