ABSTRACT
Although there is a real possibility that present-day post-Soviet de facto states could survive without international recognition for a lengthy period, this chapter discusses three possible trajectories which individual de facto states can take: international recognition by a number of other states, absorption by their patron state, and re-integration to their parent state.
