ABSTRACT

This text presents succinctly the process of rise and development of revolutionary armed organizations in Argentina between the end of the 1950s and the 1980s. The history of these groups can be explained by the intersection between the upsurge of revolutionary movements in Latin America, the Cold War and Argentine history—marked by violence, military coups and political repression. The work analyzes first the political characteristics of these organizations in light of two ideological families, Peronism and Marxism. Second, the history of these groups is reconstructed taking into consideration different moments, with an emphasis on their apogee in 1969 until their near elimination as a result of the brutal repression exercised by State terrorism in the mid-1970s.
