ABSTRACT

The workplaces of today are characterized by working 24/7, anytime and anywhere, which has led to information overload, the impression of the “scarcity” of time, and a sense of working in a rush. Constant change, unpredictability, and connectivity seem to be new work norms. Furthermore, digitalization, AI, machine learning, and other features brought by Industry 4.0 are transforming the traditional understanding of work lives, family lives, and societal well-being. Questions are being raised regarding sustaining the well-being of individuals, families, and societies in this new environment. As a result, we are witnessing an increased interest in mindfulness—a state of non-judgmental attentiveness and awareness of the moment—as a way to better cope with daily stressors. In this chapter, we adopt a multi-stakeholder perspective to explore the ways in which mindfulness can facilitate thriving and productive relationships with the self, co-workers, leaders, AI, clients, and family members. We offer specific recommendations and practical exercises on how mindfulness can be integrated in employees’ daily lives through the mindful management of interactions.
