ABSTRACT

The critical role of mindfulness on individuals’ wellbeing has received attention by scholars from various fields. Mindfulness, with its countless benefits on individuals, has been considered as a trait or state that can boost positive emotions and behaviors in the workplace. Similarly, emotional intelligence and resilience have also been shown to have many benefits in the workplace. This quantitative study sought to contribute to the existing literature by uncovering the interplay of these three variables, specifically the enhancing role of mindfulness on emotional intelligence and resilience, in which emotional intelligence also mediates the relationship between mindfulness and resilience. Four hypotheses predicted positive associations between the three major variables, in addition to a mediating role for emotional resilience. The results show that mindfulness increases individuals’ adaptability to difficult situations by increasing their emotional intelligence and resilience, and that emotional intelligence mediated the relationship between mindfulness and resilience. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
