ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on enabling a culture of voice and listening within an evidence-based parental engagement programme developed by Save the Children UK. It also seeks to document reflections and learning about the experience of co-creating, with partners, the spaces and skills and tools to support voice work with young children. Families Connect is an evidence-informed programme that supports parents to engage in their children’s learning. In response to one of the social and emotional theme workshops, titled the Importance of Listening, parents came up with a range of activity ideas to encourage more conversation with their children and ways to tune into their children’s preferences and interests. In the spirit of supporting voice with young children, it was important to develop a technique to enable children to give feedback on the pilot programme, and parents and children were invited to tell the reader about their experiences of the Families Connect program.
