ABSTRACT

It is a common practice in Norway for young children to go on trips outside their settings. This case study looks into such practice, focusing on a group of five- to six-year-old children in our kindergarten as they go on short (around 30 minutes to one hour) and long trips (two to five hours) throughout the year. It will particularly look into three specific trips – one short and two long trips – and how they enabled children’s voices within the group. The time spent outside, the new environment and the change of group dynamics during these trips have helped children to express themselves and be heard.
