ABSTRACT
This chapter is based on an interview with the Chief Justice of Ogun State, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Honorable Justice Mosunmola Akinola Dipeolu at the Chief Judge Chambers, High Court of Justice, Isabo, Abeokuta. The interview was given to obtain the views, perspectives, experiences, and opinions of the Chief Judge (CJ) about trends in the Nigerian judiciary and her interpretations of current issues in law and the procedural field of the country. Aside from exploring her autobiographical details including family and social background, the CJ bore her minds on the greatest problem facing the courts, the relationship between legal theory and practice in the courtrooms and developments in law and legal procedure in Nigeria. In conclusion, she identified lack of financial independence as a factor that impedes effective administration of justice. Therefore, she submitted that if financial autonomy is achieved by the judiciary, coupled with reforms that guarantee speedy dispensation of justice, a revival of the legal system that will exhume social justice and higher confidence in the judiciary will be witnessed.
