ABSTRACT

An interesting aspect of the interviews with the judges was the global nature of the law and legal jurisprudence that allowed several of the judges to be employed in jurisdictions other than that where they were born. This was succinctly borne out by Justice M.E. Birnie Stephenson who is a native of Guyana but functions within the judiciary of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Justice Deepthi Amaratunga who is of Sri Lankan descent but who functions as a High Court Judge in the Judiciary of Fiji, as well as Justice Charmaine Althea Joy Pemberton who is a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago but who was once employed as a Master of the Supreme Court of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) and stationed in St. Lucia. The judicial officers interviewed represent a diverse array of nations, cultures, and genders ranging from Canada and the United States to Estonia, Serbia.
