ABSTRACT
By reinterpreting the insights of four works that addressed the agrarian question through the lens of uneven and combined development (UCD), this chapter seeks to tease out insights useful for the present conjuncture. “Peasant economy” is tackled via Kautsky and Lenin; “peasant politics” via Hobsbawm and Wolf. A case is made for the usefulness of UCD for current political questions in anthropology.
