ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an analysis of early lessons emerging from situation of a global pandemic – the most significant of which was, how well prepared was the schooling system for times of crisis and managing continuity of learning when school closures. Education continuity plans should kick in then immediately for whatever type of crisis may emerge, whether pandemics, natural disasters, terrorism. In identifying the concept of 'business continuity planning' the people argue that for the education sector this means plans must focus on the continuing education of learners. Whilst the terms home-schooling and home-education are used quite interchangeably in the current coronavirus crisis, it is pertinent to state that there is no agreed or definitive distinction between the two terms. A national strategy to provide a fully functioning Education Knowledge Service, to support education during emergencies and crises must be called for, as a minimum requirement of government, to ensure the learning of a generation is not compromised by school lockdowns.
