ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors explore choices and potential consequences of their choices. A new focus on education, based on explicit shared values focused on shaping the society of tomorrow, may bring the opportunity to energize communities and bring them together. In any case, making major policy decisions not on party political grounds but on evidence and research-based grounds in consultation with stakeholders in education the authors argue is more likely to bring the long lasting change the people want without damaging what is already working well in a service. Policy makers may plough on regardless, perhaps with the help of a few expert ‘lone ranger’ advisers, or they can decide to work in partnership with the educators who spend their whole lives working on specific areas to develop deep expertise in the previous topics.
