ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the authors examine a way out of the chaos in the current English education system. They have a partially deregulated and therefore massively fragmented system and service comprising 152 Local Education Authorities, 740 Multi-Academy Trusts and 1,651 Single Academy Trusts. Based on the impact of the ideologically driven change experienced in England since 2010, the people propose cross-party consensus is sought to achieve stability in the system going forward. It seems clear to the reader that decisions taken using "deliberative democratic processes" are more likely to lead to an improved education service and better outcomes for young people than the "competitive democratic process currently being employed". The consequences of not addressing the problem could be severe as Professor Madeline Albright spells out in her book Fascism.
