ABSTRACT

In film and television production it is a hard and fast rule to stay in your own lane when it comes to your department. As important as each crew member is, the Makeup Department Head shouldn't be telling the Director of Photography how to adjust the lens to best reflect their work. Still, the Department Head and DP are using different tools to achieve the same goal. In this chapter Christine Sciortino enlists the help of Tom Ciciura of Second Ciné Camera, an equipment rental service, and Tony Santiago a lighting professor at Columbia College Chicago. Together, they demonstrate how the Camera Department works toward getting the best picture of a subject. They also arm the on-set makeup artist with key terms from the Camera and Lighting Department.
