ABSTRACT

Charismatic leaders can inspire and motivate individuals to perform beyond expectations. Though organizations may select charismatic leaders in the first place, it is important to question whether organizations can train their existing pool of leaders to be charismatic and therefore drive performance. In this chapter, we review the existing literature on charisma and discuss to what extent charisma is learnable, which behaviors can be trained, and how organizations should design charismatic leadership trainings to produce measurable changes. We conclude the chapter by discussing future directions for research on charisma and traineeship.
