ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the characteristics of charisma including, “admiration,” “allure,” “appeal,” “desirability,” “magnetism,” “power,” “influence,” and “popular loyalty” are explored and applied to sportspersons. A discussion of sports as a social institution follows the review of the concept of “charisma.” Measurements of charisma in sports, including power and influence, endorsements, social media presence, and fame are reviewed in the context of charisma in sports.
