ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the importance of literature review in geographical research and different techniques used in conducting one. The narratives and arguments given in this chapter indicate that research design, development of data collection instruments and data analysis plans are primarily dependent on an overall understanding of subject matter in question. The chapter also discusses that lack of background understanding about the area of interest or limited background knowledge may conceptually confine the researchers in outlining the epistemological boundary of their research, resulting in their inability to develop an ontological structure, including identifying methodological procedures.
