ABSTRACT

The chapter argues conceptually that the enhancement of the knowledge economy (or the use of knowledge) can help agriculture develop inclusively and sustainably. The transition of agriculture from traditional to modern, resulting in easing pressure on the agricultural population and resource-poor agricultural settlements, depends on adoption of a new agricultural technology revolution. However, the introduction of innovation often begins with use of the knowledge. Agricultural economic development (i.e. the upgrading of the agricultural structure and increasing agricultural production) depends on both knowledge and science technology. Ultimately, an ecologically sound agriculture is also realized through the knowledge-based agricultural economy.
