ABSTRACT

Mikel Bermello Isusi uses affect and comics narrative theory as a tool to examine how the genre of sci-fi can become an emancipatory comics space for reimagining non-binary configurations of body, gender, and sexuality transplants. Bermello Isusi analyzes how Spanish comic book creator Ríos invites readers to empathically engage with the trans teen protagonist Noa’s struggle to come into his own as a self within a society that perceives him as different.
