ABSTRACT

In fall 2019, the Division of Diversity and Innovation was named and established as its own unit to house and bring together all the diversity initiatives, councils, and cultural centers, including the Professors of Equity. As an institution first conceived in 1897 and located along the US-Mexico border, San Diego State University (SDSU) is a large-sized, four-year public university and also one of the 23 campuses of the California State University system. As a team, the Professors of Equity are charged to “provide intensive, ongoing professional learning opportunities for SDSU faculty on diversity-related topics.” So far, designing and leading interactive seminars on implicit biases and microaggressions has been the central focus. Rather than prematurely speculating the impacts on participants, the authors would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the differential labors and impacts across members on this team doing diversity work.
