ABSTRACT

China’s influence in the Caribbean is proliferating with many countries in the region shifting diplomatic ties from Taiwan to the People’s Republic of China. As a result, the region is trading more with China as well as being the recipient of increased aid and investment from that country. While the USA has cautioned against increasing dependence on China, the Trump Administration has yet to develop an effective strategy to combat China’s growing soft power or to address the many challenges currently facing the region.
