ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the development of the Trinidad and Tobago economy from the post-independence period to the present day. It starts with a brief review of the country’s economic history. The macroeconomic environment is analysed with emphasis on unemployment and inflation. After focusing on debt and fiscal policy further analysis is undertaken of the country’s monetary, trade and exchange rates policies. Finally, after outlining some recent developments, the country’s economic outlook is assessed.
