      ABSTRACT

      The aeolian wind tunnel is a useful instrument for studying saltation physics as well as for modelling drift geometry at small scale. For small-scale modelling, it is shown that, although the dimensionless deposition or deflation rate may be a function of several other dimensionless parameters, the Froude number is one of the more important ones. Examples are presented illustrating the dependence of dimensionless deposition or deflation rate or drift geometry on Froude number, density ratio, and the ratio of wind speed to threshold wind speed.
