The political integration of Muslims in Western politics

This chapter will address the question: what factors influence (or hinder) the political integration of Muslim minorities in Western democracies? We use a causal mechanism approach to answer this question, examining factors such as an increase in immigration and refugees, an increase in minority leaders and a perceived weak economy. This chapter discusses how these variables contribute to a rise in right-wing votes and extremism as well as increased political integration of Muslims in the West.
