ABSTRACT

Chapter 11, “Applying the ASCA Ethical and Legal Standards in Your Clinical Experiences,” reviews the principles of counseling ethics and provides an acronym (COMPLICATIONS) as a model for making ethical decisions. The school counselor is often placed in a precarious decision-making position due to his/her unique status in the school, as well as the paradigm differences that exist between this profession and the school administrators. Numerous legal cases and statutes are outlined for consideration in recognizing the difficulty in reconciling the disparities that exist between ethical stipulations and legal provisions.
