ABSTRACT

Chapter 12, “Cross-Cultural Competence in the Schools,” provides information related to working with different groups of school-aged youth. A self-assessment of awareness, knowledge, and skills in relation to working with diverse populations while in your training program is summarized. Highlighted in the chapter are culturally and ethnically diverse students, those with special needs, gifted students, gender differences among youth, students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ), English language learners, socioeconomic differences among students, and students with multiple exceptionalities. School counselor responsibilities in working with these students are also discussed.
