ABSTRACT

Chapter 3, “Applying Counseling Theories during Your Clinical Experiences,” offers a summarization of the more widespread approaches for counseling students in schools. Although you have probably already had a class in counseling theories, clinical school counseling students often express a need to review some of the more popular theories that are used with children and adolescents. This need becomes particularly relevant because the nature of the clinical experiences requires application of theory to actual counselees with real concerns. In addition, creative counseling strategies such as art, play, and music, as well as additional considerations for working with school-aged youth, can be found in this chapter.
